The manuscripts in this Collection fall into two groups. The first group consists of the papers of former Garrett-Evangelical Presidents and faculty members, including Milton Terry, Charles Stuart, and Georgia Harkness. The second group consists of a varied set of materials embracing Methodism from the time of its birth in the eighteenth century to the present century. Of particular note are the journals, letters, and papers of Ezekiel Cooper and William Colbert. Included in these early Methodist materials are several letters written by John Wesley.
The Methodist Special Collection also contains a large number of books, pamphlets, and periodicals including approximately 500 titles of eighteenth-century imprints by John and Charles Wesley. Other authors and subjects in the collection include John Fletcher, George Whitfield, and polemical pamphlets originating from early controversies in the American church and from Wesley's reaction to the American Revolution.
Inquiries regarding this collection should be directed to Alva Caldwell or UL Reference Staff.
